The problem with band-aid solutions and what it means for our health

Band-aid solutions provide simple answers to health problems. They provide a quick fix without addressing the underlying issue. Got a headache? Take a painkiller. Bad skin? Apply this cream. Reflux? Drink this formula.

When we treat health issues with bandaid solutions we remove the individuals responsibility and create a reliance on external sources to “solve” problems. If we truly want to achieve good health and be free from disease we need to address the root of the problem. We need to empower ourselves to understand the cause of the issue and treat IT rather than its symptoms. Headaches, acne, pain, swelling, bloating, overheating, etc are all ways of our body communicating that there is a deeper issue.

How do we fix this?

A holistic health professional will ask you a range of questions. They will take a detailed healthy history to understand what is happening specifically for you. One person’s headaches may be due to grinding their teeth while another may be due to problems with vision. One person with bad acne may have liver issues while another may have high levels of sex hormones. Brittle nails, swollen tongue and dry skin are all signs of different vitamin deficiencies.

Not one system in our body operates in isolation. Holistic health is all about treating the person as a whole, not just the disease. Every body is individual and what works for some may not work for others.

By finding the root cause of health problems we eliminate a reliance on pills, creams and formulas. We learn to be in touch with our bodies and listen to the signs it gives us. We learn when we need to eat certain foods, spend more time in the sun or get into bed that hour earlier. It may sound simple and that’s because it is. When we stop using band-aid solutions and start addressing the root cause we achieve good health.
