Oral Care Recycling Program at SHDC

Now you can recycle your oral care products and packaging at SHDC.
Help us to help the environment.

Every year, thousands of used pieces of oral care product packaging ends up in landfills across Australia.

Rather than ending up in the environment, the used oral care packaging is melted and remoulded to make new recycled products.

How to help save ‘Planet A’

SHDC has partnered with TerraCycle and Colgate® in this free recycling program for your oral care product packaging.

Simply bring in your used oral care products and packaging and we will send it off for responsible recycling into quality outdoor furniture!

This is an opportunity to divert even more waste from landfills. Start collecting your hard-to-recycle oral health products waste.

What happens to the waste

Once collected, the tubes and brushes are separated by composition, shredded and melted into hard plastic that can be remoulded to make new recycled products – including furniture.

Best practices for recycling

Program-accepted waste: Toothpaste tubes and caps, manual toothbrushes, electric toothbrush heads, toothbrush and toothpaste tube plastic packaging, floss containers.

Note: In order to recycle this waste properly, please make sure all excess product has been removed (i.e. leftover toothpaste or floss). Additionally, if you choose to rinse your product, please note that it must be completely dry.

Not accepted: Please recycle your cardboard packaging in your kerbside recycling bin. Electronic toothbrush handles and bases are not recyclable through this program.
