Overview

To be healthy our body strives to maintain a balance. This is called homeostasis. It is helpful to recognise what upsets that balance. Homeostasis and therefore our immune system is affected by stress:

Nutritional Stress

Sound nutritional advice

After over 30 years of looking at diet and nutrition and its affects on health, finally I feel someone has got it right.

This is based on 2.5M years of "human research". It is simple, sensible and easy to follow.

It does however defy the standard advice given by the Heart Foundation, Diabetes Australia, the Cancer Council and almost every other nutritional advice we get.

But, after 30 years of following the food pyramid, we are now more obese than ever before, with epidemics in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, depression and a myriad of other degenerative diseases.

Visit the website http://www.primalbody-primalmind.com/  read the blogs, download the podcasts from iTunes and follow the advice. You will feel better physically and mentally.

Assess and advise your dietary intake , assess food sensitivities, advise need for supplementation and absorption of nutrients

Environmental Stress

Eliminate toxins from the mouth

Biocompatible dental material testing (i.e. Are your fillings compromising your health)

Low radiation digital xrays

Assessment of heavy metal and environmental toxins

Emotional Stress

improve sleep quality , the body has a chance to recover rebuild and be refreshed. It also helps you make sound decisions about your food and exercise when you are not constantly tired.

limit damaging effects of night time clenching or grinding which can perpetuate chronic pain conditions such as tension headaches and neckaches and migraines.

Understanding the impact of emotional stress on your health

What you can do

Dental Stress

ensure that your mouth is free of inflammation (bleeding gums), infections and toxic dental filling

  • reduce acidity in the body through healthy eating, breathing and exercise
  • eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly so that the nutrients can be absorbed.
  • regular brushing and flossing
  • avoid carbonated drinks, fruit juices and sports drinks
  • focus on breathing gently through your nose. Mouth breathing predisposes you to many health problems
  • avoid clenching or grinding your teeth
  • get plenty of sleep, it helps you make sound decisions about your health when you are not constantly tired.

Postural Stress

involves the way you use your body on a daily basis. Our posture affects our breathing, which is basic to every system in our body. We are also at our best if we move our bodies, that is exercise

  • build sustainable, realistic and achievable exercise in to your day that can be part of your life without injuring yourself. We work with Personal Trainers who can design a program for exercise and nutrition.
  • review your breathing. We work with Respiratory Physiologists dealing with dysfunctional breathing (see Breathe Well Be Well.doc & Home Based Breathing Retraining Program.doc
  • review your sleeping posture. Stomach sleeping is the worst and places strain on your jaw neck and lower back
  • review your working posture. Sitting at a deck, at a computer or on the phone can place repetitive stress on your neck, shoulders and lower back
  • review your foot structure. Over many years compensations are can alter the balance in your foot structure and predispose you to on-going back problems. We work closely with podiatrists, osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists craniosacral therapists and body workers.

Nutritional Stress

involves the foods and nutrients we do and don’t eat and drink that can upset the body’s homeostasis. Also how well those nutrients are absorbed

  • eat nutrient-dense foods that are fresh, free of preservatives, chemicals and hidden sugars
  • read labels eg. sugar 4g = 1 teaspoon of sugar, therefore 500ml of fruit juice = 10-12 teaspoons of sugar
  • limits alcohol and caffeine intake - both affect blood sugar
  • try to balance protein, carbohydrate and fat in each meal
  • eat healthy fats
  • eat less
  • see Guidelines for Good Health

Environmental Stress

involves the affect of all the chemicals and radiation

  • minimise your exposure to chemicals and radiation, in the home, work place and in general.

Emotional Stress

dramatically affects your health. We need quiet time

  • build relaxation into your day. A time to rest and slow down to allow your body a chance to recover and rebuild from the day’s activity. We work closely with therapists who specialise in relaxation & counselling
  • ensure adequate sleep. We work closely with Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) specialists and sleep assessment clinics.
