Guidelines for Amalgam Fillings Removal

Removal of mercury amalgam fillings should be undertaken with care.
Removing mercury amalgam fillings removes the greatest source of mercury to the body.

Pre Amalgam Fillings Removal
- Thorough dental examination, galvanic readings of fillings, OPG and any other relevant radiographs.
- Appointment scheduling to avoid the 7th, 14th and 21st days for repeat of appointments.
- Consult our naturopath for full health assessment. This will identify heavy metal levels, organs affected, nutritional status and biocompatibility testing of replacement materials. Blood chemistries may be included.
Two weeks prior to dental work, commence taking oral supplements for detoxification, kidney and liver function and detoxification.
During Amalgam Fillings Removal
The following protocols for safer mercury amalgam removal are used throughout the practice
- Use of rubber dam to prevent ingestion of amalgam debris
- Medical air for patient to direct vapour away from inhalation.
- High strength suction with to avoid mercury recirculation
- Use of negative ion generators and air purifiers
- Use of tungsten carbide burs to remove amalgam, minimizing heat generated & length of procedure.
- Appointment scheduling to avoid repeat appointments on days 7, 14 and 21
- Maintain oral supplements as directed.
- Increase Chlorella before and after each appointment as advised.
- Report any adverse affects to us.
After Amalgam Fillings Removal
- Continue oral supplements after the last amalgam filling removal.
- Add organic coriander tincture to detoxification program one month after the last amalgam filling has been removed.
- One month after dental work has been completed, follow up appointment with our naturopath to monitor mercury levels and to check on organ changes and continuing detoxification protocol.
