Detoxification Guidelines
Selenium
Dosage
Take between 200-400mcg per day (10mcg per drop = 1 squirt in liquid daily].
Selenium is a powerful anti oxidant mineral that is currently chronically deficient in our soil. It acts to protect the liver from toxic stress and complements DeMerTox to bind to and eliminate heavy metals due to its enzyme component called glutathione. Metals attach themselves only in places that are programmed for attachment of metal ions. Mineral deficiency provides the opportunity for toxic metals to attach themselves to vacant binding sites. A healthy mineral base is a prerequisite for all metal detox attempts (selenium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) that help to transport toxic waste across the extra cellular space towards the lymphatic and venous vessels. Normally found in foods such as brazil nuts, button mushrooms, grains, yeast, eggs, some fish, meat and dairy.
De-Mer-Tox
Dosage
Take two tablets per day- one morning / one evening with food
DeMerTox contains glutathione, cysteine and methionine, along with dietary sulphur and anti oxidants. These are normally found in cruciferous vegetables: cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, garlic and onions. During heavy metal detox, these are essential in mobilising metals stored in the intracellular space and the nucleus of the cell. They also strongly assist and support the eliminative organs such as the liver and kidneys, to facilitate removal of heavy metals from the body.
Fatty Acids
Cod liver oil - 1 capsule twice daily or one large tablespoon daily as prescribed
Fatty Acids EPA DHA
Lipids (made from fatty acids) make up 60 – 80% of the central nervous system and need to be constantly replenished. Deficiency makes the nervous system vulnerable to the fat soluble metals, such as metallic mercury constantly escaping as odourless and invisible vapour evaporating from the amalgam fillings. Other quality fats to complement this in the diet include coconut oil, cold pressed olive oil, flaxseed oil, butter [ not heated ], ghee [ clarified butter ], nuts, avocados, oily fish such as sardines, dairy fats and small quantities of quality meats.
Fats help to rebuild cell membranes and nerve tissue. Butter stimulates lipoprotein production necessary for transportation of mercury out of the body. It also acts to maximally stimulate the LCAT enzyme required to load cholesterol the HDL (good cholesterol) carriers. Mercury may then exit the body along with cholesterol via bile and intestines.
Chlorella (SUN brand)
Dosage
Start with 1 gram (4 small tablets) 3 - 4 times per day or 8 tablets twice daily. This is the standard maintenance dosage for adults for the duration of active detoxification.
When amalgam fillings are removed, a higher dose of 12 tablets twice daily should be given for 2 days before and 2 days after the procedure.
Ideally take 30 minutes before the main meals and at bedtime. This way chlorella is exactly in that portion of the small intestine where the bile squirts into the gut at the beginning of the meal, carrying with it toxic waste. These are bound by the chlorella cell wall and carried out via the digestive tract.
SUN Chlorella is cultured outdoors instead of in tanks, allowing for maximum exposure to sunlight, in order to obtain increased amounts of useful components such as chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Because chlorella is a pure, whole food, the nutrients in chlorella are natural and well balanced.
Chlorellas high chlorophyl components combine with its unique cell wall construction to bind to and shuttle out, eliminate and repair, damage caused by all environmental toxins and all toxic metals, more effectively than any natural detoxification substance found.
This fresh water algae "Pyreneidosa" used in SUN Chlorella is:
- 50 - 60% amino acid content, including all 8 essential amino acids.
- more chlorophyll per gram than any other land or sea plant,
- provides 333% of the RDA of B12 for adults,
- 180mg of beta carotene in each 100g, that being the greatest Vitamin A activity and antioxidant ability of all known carotenoids
SUN Chlorella has multiple health inducing benefits such as:
- In cases of candida albicans, gut dysbiosis, constipation and bloating. Its unique cell wall stimulates the growth of aerobic [ good ] bacteria and destroysanaerobic [ bad ] bacteria and promotes peristalsis movement of stool within the bowel [ see appendix one further on for more details ]
- Immunostimulating effect by enhancing macrophage activity as well as enhancing the cell destroying ability of certain lymphocytes. This can lead to an anti tumor effect.
Water
- Copious amounts (at least 6-8 large glasses of filtered or spring water daily)
- May have a small squeeze lemon juice in water between meals
- Apple cider vinegar before meals to stimulate digestion
- Enhanced water – mineralized, electrolytes added e.g. a pinch of Celtic sea salt
- Avoid plastic bottles
- Avoid so-called “Alkaline water” products
Pure water stimulates the excretory organs (kidney and colon) and sweating and helps hydrate the extra cellular tissues. Water also encourages bowel movement, which is vital to ensure no re-absorption of mercury through the bowel. If constipated consult your naturopath. Without enough fluid intake the kidneys may become contaminated with metals. The basal membranes swell up and the kidneys can no longer efficiently filtrate toxins.
Adequate water helps to restore intra and extra cellular fluid balance.
Organic Coriander Tincture
ONLY to be started one month after the last amalgam has been removed as prescribed at follow up appointment with Naturopath
Dosage / Serving Suggestion:
Take 2 drops 2 times per day in the beginning. Taken just before a meal or 30 minute after taking chlorella.
Gradually increase dose to 10 drops 3 times per day for full benefit.
During the initial phase of detoxification organic coriander tincture should be given 1 week on and 2 – 3 weeks off.
Coriander Pesto makes a wonderful addition to sauces, soups, steamed vegetables, etc…
- 6 cloves peeled garlic
- 2 bunches of fresh coriander, including stems and roots, washed and dried
- 2/3 cup nuts (cashews, almonds, hazelnuts or pine nuts)
- 1 cup fresh pecorino or parmesan cheese, grated
- ½ cup organic extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Simply blend all ingredients in a food processor, drizzling oil in gradually, until you reach your desired consistency.
Other ways of taking Organic Coriander Tincture -
Please note that this is an alternative to taking the drops
- Rub 5 drops twice a day into ankles for mobilization of metals in all organs, joints and structure below the diaphragm.
- Rub 5 drops twice daily onto the wrists for organs, joints and structures above the diaphragm. The wrists have dense autonomic innervations (axonal uptake of coriander) and are crossed by the main lymphatic channels (lymphatic uptake).
Organic Coriander Tincture Tea
- Use 10-20 drops in a cup of hot water, Sip slowly
- Clears the brain quickly of many neurotoxins
- Rub 10-15 drops into painful areas. Good for headaches and other acute symptoms (joint pains, angina and headaches) often achieve almost instant pain relief.
Organic Coriander Tincture
This kitchen herb is capable of mobilizing mercury, cadmium, lead and aluminium in both bones and the central nervous system. It is probably the only effective agent in mobilizing mercury stored in the intracellular space (attached to mitochondria, tubulin, liposomes etc) and in the nucleus of the cell (reversing DNA damage of mercury). Due to coriander mobilizing more toxins than it can carry out of the body, it may flood the connective tissue (where the nerves reside) with metals that were previously stored in safer hiding places. This process is called re-toxification. It can easily be avoided by simultaneously giving an intestinal toxin-absorbing agent. Our definite choice is the algae organism chlorella. A recent animal study demonstrated rapid removal of aluminium from the skeleton superior to any known other detox agent.
Organic Coriander causes the gall bladder to dump bile – containing the excreted neurotoxins – into the small intestine. The bile release occurs naturally as we are eating and is much enhanced by coriander. If no chlorella is taken, most neurotoxins are reabsorbed on the way down the small intestine by the abundant nerve endings of the enteric nervous system.
NOTE: More aggressive approaches, such as I.V DMPS, Glutathione, Vitamin C, EDTA or oral DMSA and others have a place in reasonably healthy people but often worsen the condition in patients with advanced illness.
Our preference is a gentler detoxification process involving lifestyle and dietary recommendations (see “Guidelines for Good Health”), some supplementation and adequate rest.
Nutritional Detoxification Guidelines
Over millions of years humans have evolved in a symbiotic relationship with nature. Foods that are natural help the body to maintain a healthy balance called, homeostasis.
If you are confused about which foods to eat or what might compromise your health, just stay with foods that nature has provided us.
Some general principles:
- Choose fresh & whole foods, preservatives and sugar-free, even avoid excess natural sugars
- A balance some of good protein, good fat and low gi (glycaemic index) carbohydrate in every meal
- Limit wheat products, e.g. Bread, pasta, baked goods
- Drink lots of filtered water, preferable not from plastic bottles
- Limit ( or eliminate) alcohol and caffeine
- Don’t eat too much
- Try to find a sustainable realistic weight-bearing exercise regime i.e. Walking is great
- Get lots of sleep and try to build some relaxation into your life
- Be aware of your breathing, i.e. Slow breathing, through the nose and from the diaphragm
- Try to find the right balance between homeostasis and the demands of modern social interactions
Dietary recommendations for good health, to aid detox
NOTE: Our naturopath can test food sensitivities & absorption of nutrients.
High mineral foods (supplying magnesium-Mg, potassium-K, Zinc-Zn, Manganese-Mn, chromium-Cr, selenium-Se, calcium-Ca, copper-Cu)
NOTE: Unfortunately most soils in Australia are deficient in Selenium (Se), Zinc (Zn) and Magnesium (Mg) so supplementation may be required.
- Organic foods - meats, vegetables and salads
- Celtic Sea Salt (more complex than table salt with a much greater range of minerals)
- Avoid processed foods or foods that contain sugars (i.e. sucrose, fructose, glucose) as they deplete minerals
- NOTE: just because foods say ”no added sugar” does not mean it doesn’t contain sugar. e.g. fruit juice)
- Vegetable juicing – high oxygen concentrations
- Selenium-rich foods normally found in foods such as Brazil nuts, button mushrooms, grains, yeast, eggs, some fish, meat and dairy.
Foods high in Sulphur Amino Acids
- Cruciferous vegetables: Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, garlic and onions
- Eggs
- Coriander

Quality Fats
The following nutrient- rich traditional fats have nourished healthy population groups fro thousands of years:
- Butter
- Coconut, palm oil and sesame oils
- Cold pressed olive oils
- Marine oils
- Cold pressed fax-seed oil
- Beef & lamb tallow
- Lard
- Chicken, goose and duck fat
The following new-fangled fats can cause cancer, heart disease, immune system dysfunction, sterility, learning disabilities, growth problems and osteoporosis:
- All hydrogenated oils
- Soy, corn & safflower oil
- Cottonseed oil
- Canola oil
- All fats to very high temperatures in processing and frying
Beneficial Bacteria
By including as much beneficial bacteria as you can through your diet, you can increase your body’s ability to metabolise and detoxify mercury from your body.
Beneficial bacteria help to re-balance the ratio of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria in the digestive system, enabling us to absorb more nutrients from our foods, most especially the vital amino acids, which in turn help to chelate mercury
Foods containing beneficial bacteria include:
- Sauerkraut and other pickled vegetables
- Naturally cultured full-fat plain yoghurts or kefir
Advice on Seafood
Fish is a good source of protein and iodine, low in saturated fats and high in healthy unsaturated fat and omega 3 oils.
Given the ongoing and unresolved concerns regarding mercury exposure, it is recommended that we should limit their consumption of some types of fish:
Farmed barramundi and salmon, gemfish, king mackerel, ling, marlin, orange roughy, sea perch, stingray, seabass, shark or flake, southern bluefin tuna, swordfish
For children under 5 and for pregnant women, the limit of these fish is one meal per month.
Sardines are an excellent choice.
